But, manufacturers recommend that you drain the "shipping oil" and refill with "proper oil" ahead of installation and loading of the refrigerant to the a/c system. The other purpose of the added oil is to protect the compressor during its stay on the dealer's shelves, retailers' stores, and in the course of transport.
