Bolts in directly, just like OEM parts. The ONLY problem with the job of replacing the handle assembly is the overly complex need to disassemble the tailgate. This had to be repeated unfortunately as the plastic clips on the side rods (to the actual latches on the left/right edges) needed replacing too. Not done when the handle was replaced and nearly couldn't get the tailgate open! Once the plastic guides were done, just like new. This new handle assembly also has a blocking plate to prevent jimmying the tailgate latch open. Good addition!
