Summary
  • The 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan’s heater and A/C might simultaneously stop working because of issues with the rear blower motor, rear HVAC control unit, and rear mode door.
  • You can usually find the dipstick on the driver’s side of the engine compartment; it has a yellow loop on top of its handle.
  • Put your vehicle on level ground and ensure it stays at standard operating temperature while checking the transmission fluid.

Q: I have a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan. The rear heating and air conditioning are both inoperative. What could be the cause?

Also, I would like to know how to check the transmission fluid level since the vehicle doesn’t have a dipstick.

If both the heater and A/C are inoperative, you’re likely dealing with an issue with the rear blower motor, the rear HVAC control unit, or possibly the rear mode door.

A: Hello, Russ. For the most part, your car’s heating and air conditioning (A/C) are two separate systems. The heater relies on hot engine coolant, whereas the A/C uses refrigerant.

But what the heating and A/C both share is the climate control air management system. As such, if both the heater and A/C are inoperative, you’re likely dealing with an issue with the rear blower motor, the rear HVAC control unit, or possibly the rear mode door. You (or your mechanic) will need to do some troubleshooting to know for sure.

As for checking the transmission fluid, there should be a dipstick on the left-hand side (driver’s side) of the engine compartment. The dipstick handle has a yellow loop at the top.

You’ll want to check the transmission fluid with the vehicle on level ground and at normal operating temperature. The engine should be running. Step-by-step instructions for checking the fluid can be found in your owner’s manual

Also, the video below demonstrates how to check the transmission fluid on your vehicle:

Jorge Bonnin

Good morning, sorry if I already asked you.
I need the left taillight for a ’97 Honda Odyssey EX
Do you have that spare? If you have it, can you give me the price and I’ll pay you right away?
If so, could you please send it to an address in South Beach?
Thanks

Hi Jorge,

Unfortunately, we do not carry the tail light assembly for your Honda at this time.

Russ

Thanks! After reading your reply, I accidentally entered 2004, not 2014! Whoops 😬 I highjacked a solenoid to get the fan running for the radiator, but that was from an empty use slot. (Rear a/c heater) no dipstick for newer 2014 grand caravans… thanks again I will do some more investigating
