The Hummer will also use a more energy-dense Ultium battery technology.

The battery provides an estimated range of 300-plus miles while still being able to fully charge in two hours.

The Hummer EV SUV is trying to prove that EVs aren’t wimpy.

However, its large size is controversial.

To be efficient, electric vehicles are generally small, aerodynamic, and lightweight.

But the GMC Hummer EV SUV is massive, has poor aerodynamics, and weighs thrice as much as a typical sedan.

It’s also incredibly power-hungry.

For the same mileage,  it consumes three times as much electricity as a Tesla Model 3.

While EVs are still greener than traditional vehicles, large EVs like the Hummer will contribute more upstream emissions than other smaller EVs.

Hummer EV  - 341 grams of CO2 per mile

Chevy Malibu  - 320 grams of CO2 per mile

On a per mile basis, CO2 emissions from the electric grid and the total environmental cost of production for the Hummer EV are higher than a gas-powered Chevy Malibu.

Despite its contradictions, critics have been impressed with the GMC Hummer EV SUV.

Aside from being capable, spacious, and fun, it’s an eye-catching status symbol.

Whether or not the GMC Hummer EV SUV will be the future of full-size SUVs remains to be seen.
