Set up
Turn your engine off and set the parking brake.
Lift the vehicle
Loosen the stud bolts on the front wheels. Lift the front of your vehicle. Place the vehicle on the axle stands.
To be able to change the sway bar end links on your vehicle, you need to remove the wheels to gain complete access to the suspension system. Don’t forget to put the wheels under the vehicle!
Tips
You can now see your car’s sway bar end link. The sway bar end link connects the sway bar to the lower control arms to keep the wheels firmly on the ground at all times.
The components to be removed are very often seized up, so don’t hesitate to brush and to use penetrating oil to make removal easier.
Unscrew the upper ball joint
Using an 18 mm spanner, unscrew the nut on the upper ball joint. Restrict the rotation of the ball joint using a ratchet and an 8 mm socket.
Unscrew the lower ball joint
Repeat the operation on the lower ball joint using a ratchet and an 18mm socket.
Since access to the nut of the lower ball joint is more difficult, you can block the rotation of the sway bar link by holding it with your other hand.
Remove the sway bar end link
Using a breaker bar, lift the sway bar to release it from the link. You can now remove the link.
Install the new sway bar end link
Fit the new link and unscrew the nuts supplied with it.
Install it in the lower control arm. Lift the sway bar once again. Then insert the link in it.
Start by tightening the nut on the lower ball joint until it makes contact. Then, using the breaker bar, lever the sway bar so that the top nut can be installed.
And screw it back on. Tighten the nuts with a torque wrench.
Finalise the reassembly
Then, you will be able to put the wheels back on your vehicle. Put the car back on the ground and block the wheels properly.
Operation completed!
