Toyota is recalling a number of units of the 2020 Corolla hatchback due to failing back-up lights.
According to documents filed by the automaker with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on April 8, the wire harness in the rear hatch of the vehicle is believed to have sustained damage during production.
This damage may cause the back-up lights to stop working and increase the risk of a car crash as these lights typically function as a signal of the driver’s intent to reverse.
Additionally, drivers will not receive any warning notifications that the lights are dead, meaning it’s totally possible for them to start backing up without being able to signal to other nearby vehicles.
Fortunately for consumers, there are only 960 units of the 2020 Corolla hatchback that are affected by the problem and will have to be returned to dealerships.
The Japanese automaker has also instructed its dealers to inspect affected Corolla hatchbacks and replace the damaged wire in the rear hatch at no cost to customers.
Owners of the affected vehicles may expect to receive their recall notices by mail beginning May 25.
