As great as factory-built vehicles are with standard accessories, safety systems, and tech features, customers can still find something to improve on. And when the manufacturers don’t offer the accessories they want, they make do with off-brand accessories.

While there is nothing wrong with modifying cars or trucks outside the factory, there are concerns being raised on how this can affect the built-in safety systems. In trying to address this among its customers, Toyota thought of offering a new lift kit for its Tacoma pickup.

Introduced as the TRD Lift Kit, the one-of-a-kind add-on is ensured to be compatible with the Tacoma’s driver-assistance tech. The lift kit, Toyota said, is available for the Tacoma V6 4×4 models and offers up to two inches of front suspension lift and one inch at the rear.

Toyota said the TRD Lift Kit is only offered as a dealer-installed option.

Toyota further shared that the TRD kit comes with a redesigned grille, the key to the upgrade, the automaker said. The grille is similar to the one installed in the Tacoma TRD Pro, which is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) millimeter-wave sensor and camera support bracket that makes the TSS technology work. When added to the Tacoma, the TSS equipment includes pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control.

Also providing additional lift are the new Bilstein shocks that come with red dust boots designed with special TRD graphics. Aside from providing extra ground clearance, the shocks also improve off-road geometry, thanks to their 32-degree approach angle, 23-degree breakover angle, and 24-degree departure angle. All in all, the added accessories give the Tacoma a bit more advantage compared to the standard TRD Off-Road model, although not as powerful as the Tacoma TRD Pro.

The TRD Lift Kit, according to Toyota, is only offered as a dealer-installed option. It is compatible with most of the 2020 and 2021 V6 4×4 Tacoma pickup trucks and costs $1,350 without the labor fees. Too, it comes with a three-year and 36,000-mile warranty like other TRD upgrades.
