The Toyota Corolla has a reputation of being one of the most reliable sedans on the market today, hatchback or not. But the Japanese automaker isn’t stopping in further spicing up the vehicle.
Not long after it announced the upcoming arrival of a GR-badged performance model of the Corolla, the company revealed a sports package is also due to arrive for the 2021 model year. Called the Apex, this new Corolla package will see improvements on the SE and XSE trim levels of the sedan.
Among the most noticeable tweaks is the addition of summer performance tires. It will also have a 2.0-liter inline-four engine that delivers 169 horsepower as an option for the Corolla sedan and as standard in the hatchback model.
For the SE trim, the Apex package will be paired with a six-speed manual transmission, as well as the CVT-powered SE and XSE variants.
When it comes to appearance, the Corolla Apex will be sold in three color combinations. These are black, white with a black roof, and Cement gray with a black roof. It is also expected to get more aggressive styling than the current SE and XSE trims in the lineup.
Pricing details are set to be announced by Toyota in the next few months, in time for its arrival at dealership lots.
