In a move to encourage more consumers to switch to hybrid vehicles, Toyota is offering a once-in-a-lifetime deal to first-time buyers of its hybrid cars.
A common area of concern among owners of hybrid vehicles is the cost of replacing the battery pack, which is inevitable like with any other battery-powered device. Currently, replacement battery for EVs amount to several thousand dollars.
But in its latest move, Toyota is hoping to ease the burden for consumers looking to switch into hybrid vehicles by extending the warranty on their batteries.
Beginning with vehicles for the 2020 model year, the Japanese automaker will be offering a warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles (whichever comes first) for its entire hybrid lineup. This is an improvement from the previous coverage of 8 years or 100,000 miles of warranty.
“Toyota introduced the first hybrid in the world more than 20 years ago, but people still have hesitations about owning a hybrid vehicle,” Heather Updegraff, General Manager of Toyota Vehicle Marketing and Communications, said. “Our goal is to minimize that concern and this new warranty extension for the hybrid battery is just another way we are leading the industry and putting our customers first.”
Toyota’s warranty covers the lifespan of modern hybrid batteries, which comes to around 10 years and 150,000 to 200,000 miles on average.
The offer, however, also comes with limitations as the warranty only applies on the battery pack. Related components such as the battery control module, hybrid control module, and inverter are only covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles.
Toyota has a total of seven hybrid vehicles in its lineup, including the Prius, Corolla Hybrid, Avalon Hybrid, and Highlander Hybrid SUV.
