Launched in 2010, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is the oldest model in Jeep’s current lineup. In the past decade, the SUV only received a few updates. However, for the 2022 model year, Jeep is eyeing to give it an overhaul—and it looks like the redesigned model is arriving soon.

A camouflaged prototype of the updated crossover was recently spotted, and it’s looking larger than its predecessor and reportedly coming with styling details inspired by the Grand Wagoneer.

The new Grand Cherokee is said to have more upright proportions, including a tall and squarish tailgate. It will also feature a longer wheelbase and rear overhang, both of which are consistent with reports claiming the next-generation model will have a third row for seating.

As for the brand’s iconic seven-slot grille, the one on the spied Grand Cherokee appears slightly leaning forward, reminiscent of the shark-nose BMW grille on the older 6 Series. Its taillights also look slim and will possibly be connected using a full-width light bar.

When it comes to the interior, Jeep is rumored to be going the expensive route with more luxurious materials and a major tech upgrade. But instead of the dual-screen setup on the Grand Wagoneer, the Grand Cherokee is speculated to have one large touchscreen right at the center of the dash. Also arriving for the model is a digital gauge cluster, a rotary shift knob, and an assortment of active safety features.

The SUV will ride on the modified version of the rear-drive Giorgio platform by Alfa Romeo. This means customers can look forward to improved ride quality, handling, and comfort. It will also be offered with all-wheel and four-wheel-drive systems across the lineup, with a Trailhawk variant set to be part of the range as well.

Based on the latest information, powertrains are not yet finalized, but experts are looking at a Pentastar V6 to be the base engine. Too, the revamped SUV will likely get a starting price within the mid-$30,000 range, while higher trim models could shoot up to $60,000.
