P2100 Code: Throttle Actuator “A” Control Motor Circuit/Open

More and more modern vehicles now include throttle actuator control (TAC), also known as electronic throttle control (ETC), in place of the throttle linkage. A gas pedal position sensor and an electronically controlled throttle have taken the place of the mechanical linkage or cable that connects the throttle body to the accelerator pedal.

Your throttle actuator is a crucial part of this system. It’s operated using an electrical signal from the power control module (PCM).  P2100 is one of the several trouble codes related to a fault in your throttle actuator control motor TA-A circuit.

What Does the P2100 Code Mean?

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P2100 stands for “Throttle Actuator “A” Control Motor Circuit/Open.” This code is set once the PCM detects electrical issues in the TA-A circuit.

The throttle valve opening is controlled by the electronic throttle control system (ETCS). When the driver presses the accelerator pedal, the accelerator pedal position sensor (APP) sends a signal to the  (PCM) informing the PCM of the amount of power the driver is requesting from the engine.

The PCM receives information that helps it decide when and how long to operate the TA-A. These inputs are voltage signals from sensors that measure wheel speed and idle speed. After receiving these, the PCM can alter the signal going to the TA-A.

Once the PCM detects an electrical issue within the circuit, it will log the P2100 code.
