In the automotive industry, regular updates and redesigns are common among automakers who would like to make their respective models as competitive as possible. This is especially the case in segments that are highly saturated such as the pickup truck market.
But among all the current truck models in the U.S., one model seems to stand out for the wrong reasons — the Nissan Frontier pickup, which has not had a major design update since 2004.
However, for the 2021 model year, the popular pickup is finally getting a complete redesign and it’s bound to make way for a new body and interior.
Nissan recently released a video of the next-generation Frontier pick-up along with other upcoming models from the brand such as the revived Z sports car.
Based on the video, the well-loved truck is getting boxier proportions as well as squared-off fender flares on both ends of the vehicle. Its front fascia also appears to be ditching the brand’s conventional dual-bar grille that has the badge right in the middle and will instead go for a simpler styling.
Also seen in the video are the new headlights that now have a parallel design inversely similar to those of Ford’s F-150.
The midsize pickup will retain the direct-injection 3.8-liter V-6 engine that is also offered in the current generation. Like the 4.0-liter V-6, it delivers 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission but the manual gearbox will no longer be available.
The 2021 Nissan Frontier is set to arrive at U.S. dealerships later this year.
