What are the odds the Nissan Titan might end up having a model that could go head to head with the extremely popular Ford F-150 and Raptor in the future?
According to Tiago Castro, Nissan’s Director of North American Light Commercial Vehicle: “Absolutely!”
In a recent interview, the Nissan North America executive divulged a bit of what’s being talked about at the company’s headquarters in terms of future models.
“There’s an opportunity to do a bit more [than Pro4X],” Castro shared, before toning it down a little bit by saying, “at this point, we’re focusing on Pro4X.” This could mean that if the automaker is indeed pushing through with the plans, it might not be for the immediate future.
Other than this subtle hint, no details about what the company is planning to do with the rugged Titan were disclosed. Nissan may, however, follow the Raptor’s lead and give the model additional power, a more capable suspension, and give it drivetrain components for more traction off-road.
The most aggressive-looking and off-road capable model in the Titan lineup right now is the Rocky Ridge package. It features a ride height boosted by six inches and has nitrogen-charged rear shocks. It rides on 20-inch wheels with 35-inch Mickey Thompson tires and comes with skid plates and body cross members.
The 2020 Nissan Titan has a starting price of $36,190, exclusive of the mandatory destination charge, while the Titan XD is offered at $44,580. The range-topping Titan XD Platinum Reserve retails for $61,690 and features a crew cab body and a four-wheel-drive powertrain.
All Titan variants are equipped with a 5.6-liter V-8 engine that makes 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
