Nissan has announced a recall for 91,319 units of the 2017-2019 Titan pickup truck. The affected vehicles are light-duty models with gasoline engines that were built between April 14, 2016 and October 8, 2018. This means owners of diesel Titan XD types can breathe easy.
According to reports, the problem is caused by the alternator’s wiring harness, which may have been damaged during installation. So, when the engine is lowered into the truck, there is a chance for the harness to get pulled away from its proper location. As a result, the wiring’s shielding could be breached.
The complication could then lead to what Nissan refers to as an “abnormal electrical activity” or simply, an electrical short. It could also cause the interior lights to flicker or the radio to go in and out as well as prevent the truck’s battery from charging. When this happens, the engine might shut down and the vehicle could stall. In rare cases, “an engine compartment thermal incident” is also possible.
Fortunately for Titan owners, Nissan has already announced a fix for the wiring problem. Technicians will inspect the recalled vehicles to ensure that the harness is properly routed and damage-free. In the event that they discover a damaged harness, technicians will either clip it back into its proper position or replace the damaged components.
Dealers were already notified in June and owners can expect to receive recall notifications within the next couple of weeks.
