Nissan Gives Free Truck to Owner of Million-Mile Frontier

Nissan is rewarding a loyal customer in Chicago with a new truck after logging in more than one million miles with his reliable pickup.

Brian Murphy, a courier based in Chicago, has been driving around in his base-spec 2007 Frontier pickup for years. But starting this year, he’ll get to enjoy a 2020 Nissan Frontier built exactly to his specifications given free by the automaker.

Call it marketing, but a free truck is still a free truck.

The Nissan Frontieris set to receive its very first significant update after a decade, bannered by a 3.8-liter V-8 power train that makes 310 horsepower and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The powertrain is believed to be a temporary upgrade until the next-generation 2021 Frontier arrives at the end of the year to replace the Frontier model that has been on the roads since 2005.

The truck Murphy is getting is the Frontier with a new powertrain, plus a few more add-ons he can look forward to.

“They’re not gonna start building the new one with the new engine until mid-April, they tell me, and that time I can order what I want. They’re also gonna fly me down to Mississippi and watch it be built,” Murphy shared.

Murphy also said he is not retiring for another six to seven years, so he’s thinking carefully of specifications that would go into his new truck.

“I’m tired of shifting, so I’m gonna get an automatic, and I’m gonna switch to the V-6. They say it gets as good of mileage as the four-cylinder, so I’m gonna go with that,” he said. “I have to stay with the king cab because I need more space in back than in the cab, and the bed on the crew cab is a little shorter.”

Murphy was also revealed to be considering going for the top-of-the-line Pro-4X if it makes sense for him than the new Frontier, and is planning to get a new color, “dark blue,” in particular.

Murphy’s million-mile Frontier, meanwhile, is headed to the Nissan corporate museum in Nashville, Tennesee.
