Nissan is introducing another set of upgrades into its upcoming 2020 Maxima despite having recently undergone a refresh in 2018. But with the addition of more standard safety features, the automaker is also releasing a new pricing system for the model.

The brand has already opened sales for the 2020 Maxima across dealerships in the United States ahead of the release of the final pricing. And since the sedan just had a mid-cycle refresh in the previous model year, the new set of upgrades may not be much for consumers.

Still, a few updates are better than nothing and among the most notable changes in the 2020 Nissan Maxima is the addition of the brand’s Safety Shield 360. It is a suite of driver assistance features that is now made available as a standard offering across the lineup. The Nissan Safety Shield 360 includes
automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, blind spot monitoring, automatic high beams, and rear cross traffic alert.

The inclusion of the Nissan Safety Shield 360 puts the entry level S trim at $35,145, including the $895 destination charge. This is a $200 increase from last year’s starting price for the base trim. But other than the Safety Shield 360, more standard equipment is also included such as LED headlights, satellite radio, cloth seats, 8-way power driver’s seat, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and dual- zone automatic climate control.

The SV trim comes with a starting price of $37,195 with the addition of heated outside mirrors with LED indicators, heated seats, HD Radio, an 8-inch touchscreen with multi-touch capability, leather-appointed seats, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition. Meanwhile, the SL trim is offered at a starting price of $39,535, inclusive of a heated steering wheel, dual-panel panoramic moonroof, 11-speaker Bose audio system, a rear USB port, and parking sensors.

The SR trim is sold for $42,345 and comes with a sportier suspension, paddle shifters, suede steering wheel inserts, gloss black wheels, front seat ventilation, and surround-view camera system, among others. The highest of the range is the Platinum trim at $42,435, which comes with a power tilt-and-
telescope steering column, rain-sensing wipers, embedded navigation, power rear sunshade, and satin- finished wood interior.
