The current version of the Honda HR-V is practically an Americanized version of the brand’s global Vezel crossover. Neither does it give the nameplate an identity nor does it bring anything new to the table.

But for the next model year, Honda confirmed there will be something new for customers to expect in the model. In a recent announcement, Honda shared that an HR-V specifically built for the US is in the works.

“The development of a successor to the Honda HR-V for the US market is underway,” Honda said in a statement. “This new HR-V will be designed to meet the distinct needs of US customers, and will differ from the Honda Vezel/HR-V that will be introduced in other regions.”

Honda has not divulged full information on the upcoming HR-V; however, the automaker said more details will be shared soon.

The HR-V that’s currently sold in the market is set to be replaced in the following year. The replacement isexpected to be the most affordable car in Honda’s lineup following the Fit hatchback’s exit. In terms of interior features, nothing much is likely to change save for a better choice of materials as well as the inclusion of updated safety technology and infotainment.
