New information about the redesigned Kia Sorento recently emerged, as the company prepares for its arrival in Europe and the United States.

The mid-size SUV that’s coming to the U.S. market is not likely to change much in terms of appearance and styling. The interior furnishings are also expected to be aligned with the model recently revealed for European customers.

Some of the tech features that will be part of the new Sorento include a 10.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a wide selection of driver-assistance features, and a drive mode selector for various types of terrain such as mud, snow, and sand.

According to Kia, both five- and seven-passenger versions of the Sorento will be offered in the United States, with the third-row seats likely being standard equipment for American buyers.

Like the Europe-spec Sorento, the U.S.-bound hybrid version is also expected to be equipped with a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel engine that makes 227 horsepower. This will join the previously announced 2.5-liter inline-four that makes 277 horsepower.

For the base engine, a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is seen as a sure bet. Front-wheel-drive will also be standard, while the all-wheel-drive setup will be optional.

After the 2021 Kia Sorento goes on sale in the U.S., a plug-in hybrid version will be set for launch.

Kia’s division in America has yet to release confirmation on the reports circulating about the new Sorento, but the company is expected to share more official details in the coming weeks.

The mid-size SUV is scheduled to go on sale in Europe in the third quarter of 2020, which means it is likely going to hit the U.S. market sometime in the fourth quarter.
