No small detail is irrelevant in building a dependable car. At least that’s what Mini believes as it introduces floating wheel hubcaps as a new accessory for its cars.
The new hubcaps will be an addition to the brand’s range of accessories and will be available at Mini dealerships and other websites.
The wheel hubcaps are “floating” in such a way that they remain in an upright position even as the wheels turn. They manage to keep their position because they do not rotate with the wheel unlike hubcaps in other car models. This setup allows the Mini logo to maintain its horizontal position.
According to the company, it’s possible for the hubcaps to retain their with the use of “precisely positioned weights on the front of the cap and a flexible connection to the wheel hub extension.”
While the positioning of the caps does not necessarily affect anyone’s driving skill or the overall performance of the vehicle, it does make the car more aesthetically pleasing. This is especially the case for people who have a certain preference in keeping the general look of their car “in order.” It’s also a thoughtful idea from the automaker, which definitely won’t go unnoticed by customers.
The floating hubcaps are available for Mini and John Cooper models. They can also be easily swapped with current hubcaps installed in cars. Mini is offering the floating hubcaps in two versions: one with the regular Mini logo and one with the John Cooper Works insignia.
The development, however, is not generating much chatter among customers and industry experts. It’s possible Mini is currently focused on the scheduled release of an updated version of the Countryman or perhaps making other plans for new models.
