Mercedes-Benz is recalling a total of 744,852 vehicles in the United States over problems with panoramic sunroofs where the glass could detach from the vehicle. The recall affects a wide range of vehicles spanning from model years 2001 to 2011.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a statement on the recall, saying, “The bonding between the glass panel and the sliding roof frame may deteriorate, possibly resulting in the glass panel detaching from the vehicle.”
Vehicles affected by the recall include models from the C-, CLK-, CLS-, and E-Class lineups. The C-Class series includes models C230, C240, C280, C32 AMG, C320, C350, and C55 AMG. The CLK-Class includes the CLK320, CLK350, CLK500, CLK55 AMG, and CLK55, while the CLS-Class has CLS500, CLS55 AMG, CLS550, and CLS63 AMG. Rounding up the list of affected vehicles are E-Class models E320, E350, E450, E500, E55 AMG, E550, and E63 AMG.
Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to bring their cars to dealerships where personnel will inspect the glass panel bonding and replace the sunroof assembly if necessary. Any maintenance work will be done at no cost to customers.
Mercedes-Benz will be notifying owners of the affected vehicles on or after February 14.
