Why You May Need A SureStop Front Brake Disc and Pad Kit
My existing pads are worn, glazed, and my brakes pulsating.
If your pads are over half gone and/or you’re feeling brake pulsation due to rotor issues and you want to do the job yourself, this set of pads and rotors comes as a kit and is a great value.
Product Review
SureStop Front Brake Disc and Pad Kit
This kit includes rust-free rotors and quality pads which are a perfect fit just like factory parts, and allows straightforward installation while being competitively priced compared to similar products in local chain parts stores, which may be 20% to 40% more expensive.
Why You Should Trust This Review
Initial Observations
The kit was well-packaged and the parts perfectly matched the OEM. The rotors were totally rust-free, had the machined cross-hatch on the stopping surfaces, and they were wrapped in plastic with a very light cosmoline-like coating to prevent rust, so that stuff needed to be washed off with brake parts cleaner. The pads are good quality with the anti-squeal shim already attached.
The Fit
Perfect fit. Just like factory. The rotors are indistinguishable from the OEM and, at this juncture, they appear to be of very high quality, including the finish. The pads are also a perfect match for the OEM
Installation
On the 2006 Explorer, rotor and pad replacement is straightforward. The caliper cage has to be removed (as with most vehicles) after the caliper has been removed and secured to prevent it hanging by the brake hose. The new anti-rattle hardware was a perfect fit.
Performance and Overall Quality
The rotors and pads fit perfectly and performed perfectly on the test drive. While some brake pads tend to stink and smoke the first couple of times they do much stopping, these did nothing like that. As is normal with new brake pads, the pedal feels normal except for being slightly soft until the pads are burnished, seasoned, and matched to the rotor’s machined surface,
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Perfect fit
- Do not stink or smoke the first couple of times they were used for stopping
- Very competitively priced. My local parts store chain has pads for this vehicle in stock but they’re priced 20% to 40% higher than this set from CarParts.com.
Cons
- None at all.
The Verdict
Great overall value for this SureStop front brake disc and pad kit. I highly recommend this pad and rotor set. Unlike some of the pad sets that come with multiple sets of hardware, this set came with exactly what was needed, and everything fit exactly as it was supposed to.
