When Mazda introduced the new CX-5 Signature Diesel crossover in 2019, the automaker found it hard to convince buyers that the substandard fuel economy is worth the $42,000 price tag. Now, several dealers are offering huge discounts in an effort to tempt customers into buying it.

According to a report by CarsDirect, the price slash made by some dealers goes up to as high as $10,000 such as the one made by a dealer from Dublin, California.

The said dealer is selling two 2019 CX-5 Signature models in its lot for less than $10,000, putting the crossover at just $32,045 from the original price of $42,045. This makes it more than $5,000 cheaper than a 2019 CX-5 Signature with an all-wheel-drive sold by the same dealer.

Mazda released a 2020 edition of the non-diesel CX-5 last November, but it still hasn’t announced if or when the diesel version will arrive at dealerships.

In other parts of the country such as Maryland, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin, the CX-5 Diesel is also being offered at $9,000 and $10,000 off.

According to a national dealer incentive bulletin, dealers are only supposed to give a price reduction on of $5,000 on the diesel CX-5. But a lot of dealers are opting to add another $5,000 discount.

Given the state of things, it remains unclear whether the Mazda CX-Diesel will remain in production. The company did release a 2020 edition of the non-diesel CX-5 last November, but it still hasn’t announced if or when the diesel version will arrive at dealerships.

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 Diesel Signature is powered by a SkyActiv-D 2.2-liter engine and a twin turbocharger that makes 168 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. It’s only available with an all-wheel-drive and has an EPA rating of 27/30/28 mpg city/highway/combined.
