Ahead of the release of its all-new Defender, Land Rover is launching a comprehensive set of upgrades for its current generation model.
The automaker is breathing a new life on its iconic off-roader before welcoming the dawn of a new era in September.
The upgrades are inspired by the limited-edition Defender Works V8 that the brand previously launched in celebration of the model’s 70th anniversary. The upgrade kit, which enhances the vehicle’s performance and off-road agility, will be made available for Defender 90 and 110 models with build dates between 1994 and 2016.
According to Land Rover, older generations of the Defender that date back to 1994 can be upgraded with diamond-turned-18-inch Sawtooth alloy wheels, while newer models from the 2007 model year onwards can get a Defender Suspension Upgrade Kit. The Defender Suspension Upgrade Kit gives the SUV added road adaptability because of the revised coil spring rates, dampers, anti-roll bars, links, and bushes.
A Handling Upgrade Kit, which includes Works V8 specification brake discs, pads, and calipers, will also be offered to complement the improved suspension.
Owners of 2.2-liter TDCi Defenders built from 2012 onwards, however, will get to enjoy the most comprehensive upgrade which is only available from Land Rover Classic.
It will have the Land Rover’s Defender Classic Works Upgrade Kit that includes all wheel, brake, and suspension upgrades, as well as new performance tires and an engine upgrade. The improved engine can deliver an additional 40 horsepower, bringing the total to 160 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque.
The Classic Works Upgrade Kit also comes with a unique badging on the front wings, an owner’s certificate, vehicle collection, health check, and handover that includes a tour of Land Rover’s facility in the United Kingdom or Germany.
