Kia is beefing up the Stinger for the 2022 model year with a more powerful 3.3T V-6 engine and the addition of a 2.5 turbo engine, along with other styling updates the automaker has previously announced.
A turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine will now be available as an option for customers, positioned between the turbo 2.0-liter inline-four and the twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 engines. The new 2.5T is reported to deliver up to 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque as it pairs up with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The entry-level turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will continue to be offered with 255 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the optional turbocharged 3.3 V6 engine will be given a new exhaust system. This gives the GT models equipped with the engine a boost of 3 horsepower for a total of 368 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque.
According to Kia, the new exhaust system also gives the Stinger’s Sport mode a better sound. The automaker, however, has yet to confirm if the vehicle will be offered with either rear- or the all-wheel-drive setup.
With regard to the styling updates, the 2022 Stinger gets new headlights, taillights, a different interior design, as well as a 10.3-inch infotainment display. It will also be equipped with new driver-assistance features such as a blind-spot monitoring system and lane-centering assist.
Prices are not yet up, but rates for the new Stinger are expected to increase a little. The current model is priced at $34,125 for the base GT-line model with a four-cylinder engine, while the V6-powered GT is at $40,625.
