It’s been weeks since Kia officially unveiled the new-for-2021 Sedona minivan in South Korea (known as the Carnival in other global markets). The model made a good impression with its exterior features then but is also turning heads now for its interiors.
The automaker recently shared a photo of the cockpit of the Korean-spec car, flexing some futuristic styling and premium materials for the minivan.
There wasn’t a lot to glean from the photo, but it is believed to be the indoor cabin of the Sedona’s range-topping trim. It includes dual 12.3-inch screens for the gauge cluster and infotainment, while the center stack is lined with physical buttons for HVAC controls.
Kia also added a shift-by-wire technology with the use of a dial gear selector, freeing up more storage space below the armrest area.
The carmaker also shared the vehicle will feature three or four rows of seats with a capacity for seven, nine, or 11 passengers depending on the country. For Sedona units with a seven-seat configuration, the second row will include a captain’s chair with a recline function.
The model’s current generation already boasts comfort for drivers and passengers, but the upcoming generation is expected to provide more driving and riding comfort with its longer wheelbase.
It remains to be seen if the 2021 Kia Sedona will find its way back into the U.S. automotive market. But if it does, there might be some changes for the U.S.-spec model that will likely go up against the 2021 Toyota Sienna and the updated 2021 Chrysler Pacifica.
