The 2020 Telluride is up for another recall, Kia announced in documents released by the National Highway Safety Administration.

The subject of the recall is the Telluride SUV equipped with the automaker’s Smart Cruise Control system that fails to illuminate a trailer brake light when towing. An additional lighting component that aids drivers when towing, a trailer brake light serves as a warning signal to other drivers that the car has applied its brakes.

The trailer brake light is supposed to illuminate once the brakes are physically engaged. But in the case of the problematic Tellurides, it does not when the vehicle’s adaptive cruise control system is engaged. This affects a total of 86,921 units.

Due to the problem, the 2020 Telluride fails to comply with federal motor safety regulations.

Kia said it plans to fix the problem by installing another wire harness to the vehicle. The new harness will be placed in the main fuse box from where it will send a signal brake so it lights up when the adaptive cruise control system is active.

The automaker also advised owners of the affected vehicles to bring their Tellurides to a local dealer so a technician can work on the necessary fix. The recall will begin on September 10.
