Following reports that Kia will be dropping the Sedona nameplate in favor of Carnival, its global counterpart, the automaker confirmed the news and announced the arrival of the model’s next-generation in the United States.

News broke earlier this month when the EPA website added “Kia Carnival” to its list of vehicles for the 2022 model year, suggesting that Kia will officially let go of the Sedona moniker, which has been used for the model’s US version for the last three generations.

Kia validated the news and said the all-new version of the minivan will be launched on February 23 via livestream.

Kia also shared a teaser image of the upcoming Carnival, which features a darkened grille and the new Kia logo. It will likely be the first Kia model to sport the redesigned emblem in the US.

Kia said the all-new version of the minivan will officially debut via livestream.

According to the EPA website, the 2022 Carnival will be offered with a lone powertrain—a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is expected to deliver better performance than the outgoing Sedona, which is powered by a 3.3-liter V6.

Other new features customers can look forward to are an updated interior made from premium materials and a bigger touchscreen infotainment system.

More details are expected to come when the model arrives. The 2022 Kia Carnival is scheduled to go on sale in the US sometime this year.
