Who says having a plug-in hybrid engine is an obstacle to off-roading? Not Jeep, apparently.

According to Jim Morrison, head of Jeep North America, the automaker is planning to install solar charging stations on a number of trails in California and Utah to coincide with the upcoming launch of the plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe.

Moreover, Morrison confirmed that there will be a charging station put up at Rubicon Springs, allowing owners of the vehicle to charge at the halfway point of the 22-mile Rubicon Trail in addition to a few other trails in Moab, Utah.

The new Wrangler 4xe can go full-electric for 25 miles, but Jeep wants convenience for its customers, hence the charging stations.

The model can get fully charged in two hours and the company is looking to install the stations in lunch spots and camping sites where people would normally spend a lot of time.

Delivering up to 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is definitely an ideal companion for off-road driving. Even more so with charging stations set to be placed on popular locations.
