The spotlight has shined too long on the Ford Bronco and Jeep wants a share of it.
In a recent Twitter post, the automaker shared a photo of what appears to be a Wrangler (or could it be a Gladiator?) sporting a “392” badge. The emblem suggests the vehicle is equipped with a 6.4-liter V-8 engine that can deliver up to 485 horsepower.
It’s the same engine that powers the Dodge Charger and Challenger, as well as the Durango SRT. And if Wrangler is having it, too, it could only mean one thing: additional power.
Over the years, Jeep has built a few Wranglers powered by a V-8 engine. But the automaker has never rolled out a generation with such a powerful drivetrain. Both the Wrangler and the Gladiator are offered with three engine options at the moment: a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that makes 270 horsepower, a 3.6-liter V-6 with 285 horsepower, and a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V-6 that delivers 260 horsepower.
More details are expected from Jeep in the coming weeks and months, especially now that its market rival Bronco has debuted.
