Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) released sales numbers for the Jeep Gladiator a month after the model was introduced in the market. And judging by the initial figures, it looks like the model will generate a decent profit for the brand.
In its first full month on sale, FCA’s newest pickup under the Jeep umbrella registered more than 2,500 units sold at an average transaction price of $56,000.
The Gladiator entered the month of May with 437 units sold; the model was only starting to arrive at dealerships at the time. By the end of May, an additional 2,548 sales were added under the model.
Although it’s too early to tell whether the pickup truck is a success or failure, the fact that the average transaction price for the model is at $56,403 indicates a positive result. This amount is considered high for a truck that falls in the midsize segment.
The Jeep Gladiator is currently offered in four grades. The Sport trim is offered at $35,040, the Sport S at $38,240, the Overland at $41,890, and the Rubicon at $45,040, all inclusive of destination costs.
With the average transaction around $56,000, this may be an indication that people are mostly buying Overlands and Rubicons packed with additional options.
The release of the Launch Edition may have also affected the increase in the average price. Limited to only 4,190 units, the Launch Edition, which is priced at $62,310 with destination charges, reportedly completely sold out, including all packages and features made available by the brand.
Another midsize pickup that generated decent volume sales numbers in May is the Ford Ranger, which sold 7,750 units at an average transaction price of $37,000.
