The new Hyundai Palisade is faced with an issue as the automaker announced a recall on the SUV. Fortunately for owners, it’s nothing major.
According to documents filed by the company with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 11,217 models of the Palisade SUVs are being brought back to dealerships due to airbags that could fail when deployed. More specifically, the mounting bolts used when the side-curtain airbags were installed could potentially damage the airbags and keep them from inflating during a crash.
With the quality of the airbags compromised, it also poses a risk of injury to passengers.
Hyundai said the problem stems from a hexagonal screw with sharp edges. To fix the issue, Hyundai’s technicians are instructed to install a cover over the screw. This will smoothen out any sharp edges of the assembly and keep the airbag safe when not deployed.
Owners are instructed to bring their Palisade SUVs to dealerships for the solution. Hyundai is scheduled to begin notifying customers about the recall beginning January 3.
