Amid factory shutdowns and closed corporate offices, Hyundai is trying to mitigate the effect of the coronavirus pandemic both on its customers and the business by extending warranty coverage and offering free scheduled maintenance on new vehicles.

As if it does not already have some of the most competitive warranty coverage in the industry, Hyundai is making the brand more attractive in the eyes of consumers with its latest announcement. The automaker has decided to extend the original warranties set to expire soon to June 30.

The company said it will keep in touch with individual customers eligible for the extended warranty to provide all the necessary details.

Hyundai is also offering free factory-scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles . It will cover all 2020 Hyundai models purchased after February 1.

Prior to the announcement, Hyundai’s warranty coverage already includes a warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles on the powertrain as well as a limited warranty of five years or 60,000 miles.

On top of the extended warranty, the company is also offering free factory-scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, an offer that is hard to come by for non-luxury manufacturers.

This includes oil changes, filter replacements, as well as tire rotations. This will cover all 2020 Hyundai models purchased after February 1.

The company’s strongest rivals are also offering complimentary maintenance for their customers, but not nearly as good as Hyundai’s. Toyota has a maintenance coverage of two years or 25,000 miles, while Volkswagen has two years or 20,000 miles. GM brands, meanwhile, only covers the first maintenance visit.

The updated warranty coverage puts the Korean automaker in line with luxury brands Volvo, BMW, and Genesis in terms of the length of coverage.

Kia, Hyundai’s sibling company, also offers the same warranty coverage but it has not announced if it will also cover additional free maintenance.
