In a recent interview, Hyundai’s product planning manager Andrew Tuatahi candidly shared new information on the next generation of the Tucson set for release as part of the 2021 model year, claiming it to be “very interesting visually.”

Tuatahi’s statement echoes that of Sangyup Lee, vice president of styling at the Hyundai Design Center, who previously commented that the 2021 Tucson’s exterior design will “freak out” people.

According to Tuatahi, the style and design of the new-gen crossover will serve as the “biggest shift” for the model with regard to the materials used. The model will also receive an overhauled interior layout and configuration, plus a new instrument cluster and entertainment controls.

Among the exterior features consumers can expect from the 2021 Hyundai Tucson are a bold grille design with thin-slit lights and additional lighting elements in the bumper.

Based on general redesign standards among automakers in the United States, a 4-year-old model is not exactly considered old enough to merit a new generation. This is one of the things that make people wonder what Hyundai was thinking when it first announced that the fourth generation of the Tucson, which debuted in 2015, is approaching its final production cycle.

Although, of course, who doesn’t want a new model in the fast-paced automotive industry?

Among the exterior features that consumers can expect from the 2021 Hyundai Tucson are a bold grille design with thin-slit lights and additional lighting elements in the bumper.

But other than what spy photos show and what the executives are saying, the automaker has remained mum as to which platform will be used for the new Tucson. It’s also unclear what kind of transmissions will be set up and whether the model will get hybrid-assisted powertrains.

Customers will have to wait for Hyundai’s big reveal sometime next year.
