Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Preparing for Work
- Turn off the engine and engage the parking brake.
- Pull the hood release handle and open the hood.
- For safety, disconnect the battery.
Step 2: Accessing the Starter
- Locate the starter under the vehicle, on the passenger side, where the exhaust manifold and exhaust line meet.
Step 3: Disconnecting Starter Power
- Remove the plastic protection from the three starter power connectors.
- Use a 13mm wrench to unscrew and remove the red starter power terminal.
- Use a 10mm wrench to unscrew and remove the black negative starter terminal.
Step 4: Removing Starter Retaining Screws
- Since the starter retaining screws are hard to access, remove them blindly:
- Use a ratchet, extender, and 13mm socket to unscrew the first starter retaining screw.
- Repeat the process for the second retaining screw.
- Remove the third starter retaining screw.
Step 5: Creating Space
- To remove the starter, create space:
- Use a ratchet, extender, and 10mm socket to unscrew the retaining screw of the electrical harness’ plastic guide.
- Use a 13mm wrench to unscrew the ground retaining screw on the engine. Finish by hand.
Step 6: Removing the Starter
- Shift the harnesses aside.
- Carefully remove the starter from its position.
Step 7: Installing the New Starter
- Place the new starter in position and temporarily secure it with the first screw.
Step 8: Repositioning Harnesses
- Rearrange the harnesses and secure the plastic retaining guide.
- Reattach the engine ground with its copper seal. Tighten the screw.
Step 9: Securing Starter
- Hand-tighten the second starter retaining screw.
- Use a ratchet and extender to put in place the third retaining screw.
- Fully tighten all starter retaining screws using the ratchet.
Step 10: Reconnecting Starter Power
- Reattach the negative terminal and securely screw it on.
- Reattach the positive terminal and securely screw it on.
Step 11: Finishing Touches
- Replace the plastic cover.
- Reconnect the battery.
- The replacement process is complete.
