List of tools:

  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Ratchet
  • Extender
  • 10mm socket
  • 16mm spark plug socket
  • Plastic tube
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Torque wrench
  • Torque wrench angle gauge

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Turn off your vehicle’s ignition, set the parking brake, pull the hood release handle, and open the hood.

Step 2: Locate the spark plugs; there are 3 on the passenger side under the air duct and 3 under the intake manifold.

Step 3: To access the spark plugs on the passenger side, use a flat head screwdriver to undo the two holding clamps on either side of the duct. Then, remove the hose.

Step 4: Disconnect the power from the ignition coil by pushing on the tab and pulling on the connector.

Step 5: Using a ratchet, an extender, and a 10 mm socket, remove the bolt holding the coil. Carefully remove the coil with small lateral back and forward movements.

Step 6: Optionally, use a thin plastic tube taped to the end of a vacuum to clean around the spark plug, preventing dirt from falling into the motor.

Step 7: Using a socket wrench, an extender, and a 16mm spark plug socket, loosen the spark plug. Finish unscrewing by hand and remove the spark plug.

Step 8: Insert the new spark plug into the spark plug socket and gently bring it to the screwing support. Start screwing by hand, then finish fixing it in place with a socket wrench.

Step 9: Choose a tightening technique – use a torque wrench with the recommended torque or an angular torque gauge to respect the recommended angle.

Step 10: Put the coil back, pushing it in as far as possible. Screw the bolt back in using a ratchet and finish tightening with a torque wrench.

Step 11: Reconnect the ignition coil and lock it. Repeat the process for the other spark plugs.

Step 12: Replace the air intake hose and screw the two clamps back on.

Step 13: Operation complete.
