Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Start your vehicle and let it warm up. This facilitates oxygen sensor removal and prevents damage during the process. Be cautious not to burn yourself during the operation.
Step 2: Turn off the vehicle’s ignition, set the parking brake, and open the hood. For safety, disconnect the battery.
Step 3: Loosen the stud bolts on the front wheels.
Step 4: Lift the front of your vehicle and place it on jack stands.
Step 5: To change the oxygen sensors, remove the wheels for full access. Remember to place the wheels under the vehicle.
Step 6: To remove the mudguard, unclip the ABS sensor cable retaining clip behind it. Use a ratchet and an 8 mm socket to unscrew the three mudguard retaining screws. Then, remove the mudguard.
Step 7: There are four oxygen sensors on this vehicle, two on each side. There’s an upstream and downstream oxygen sensor on both the passenger and driver’s sides. Disconnect the power supply to the upper oxygen sensor by pressing the tab and pulling the connector. Unclip the cable from its plastic guide.
Step 8: Using a 22 mm wrench, unscrew the oxygen sensor located on the catalytic inverter. You can use a hammer to assist. Finish unscrewing by hand and remove it.
Step 9: Clean the housing of the new oxygen sensor if necessary, using a wire brush and a paper towel.
Step 10: Apply the provided copper grease to the threads of the new oxygen sensor.
Step 11: Place the new sensor on the catalytic converter and screw it back on. Finish tightening with a torque wrench.
Step 12: Clip the cable back onto its plastic guide and reconnect the upper oxygen sensor.
Step 13: Put the mudguard back in place and tighten all screws.
Step 14: Clip the ABS sensor connector back inside the mudguard.
Step 15: Put the wheels back on your vehicle. Lower the car to the ground and block the wheels properly.
Step 16: Reconnect the battery.
