  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Ratchet
  • Extender
  • 10mm socket
  • Plastic tube
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Torque wrench

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Turn off your vehicle’s ignition and set the parking brake.

Step 2: Pull the hood release handle and open the hood.

Step 3: Locate the ignition coils; there are 3 on the passenger side under the air duct and 3 under the intake manifold.

Step 4: To access the passenger side coils, unscrew the two holding clamps on either side of the duct using a flat head screwdriver.

Step 5: Remove the hose connected to the coils.

Step 6: Disconnect the power from the ignition coil by pushing on the tab and pulling on the connector.

Step 7: Use a ratchet, extender, and a 10 mm socket to remove the bolt holding the coil.

Step 8: Carefully remove the coil with small lateral back and forward movements.

Tip: Use a thin plastic tube taped to the end of a vacuum to clean around the spark plug, preventing dirt from falling into the motor.

Step 9: Put the coil back, pushing it in as far as possible.

Step 10: Screw the bolt back in using a ratchet.

Step 11: Finish tightening the bolt using a torque wrench.

Step 12: Reconnect the ignition coil and lock it.

Step 13: Repeat the process for the other ignition coils.

Step 14: Replace the air intake hose.

Step 15: Screw the two clamps back on.

Step 16: Operation complete.
