Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Turn off your engine and set the parking brake.

Step 2: Loosen the stud bolts on the front wheels.

Step 3: Lift the front of your vehicle using a suitable jack. Refer to the video on ‘How to jack your RAM 1500 safely‘ for guidance.

Step 4: Place the vehicle on jack stands.

Step 5: To gain full access, remove the wheels. Place them under the vehicle for safety.

Step 6: Using a wire brush, clean and spray the hub nut with penetrating oil.

Step 7: Lock the wheel hub rotation with a crowbar and unscrew the wheel hub nut using a breaker bar and a 36mm socket.

Step 8: Remove the caliper assembly. Attach a wire to the upper control arm to support the assembly.

Step 9: Unscrew the caliper mount screws using a ratchet and a 21mm socket. Refer to the video on “How to replace the front brake discs and brake pads RAM 1500” for more details.

Step 10: Pull the retainer away from the disc with a flat head screwdriver and remove the disc.

Step 11: Continue unscrewing the hub nut. Unclip the ABS sensor cable and disconnect the connector.

Step 12: Disengage the upper control arm ball joint of the wheel knuckle. Brush the upper control arm ball joint retainer nut and spray it with penetrating oil. Release the ball joint with 
a ratchet and a 21mm socket.

Step 13: Remove the ball joint from the wheel knuckle, allowing the CV axle to be partially removed from the wheel hub.

Step 14: Unscrew the 3 retaining bolts from the wheel hub using a ratchet and a 21mm socket.

Step 15: Remove the wheel hub assembly with a hammer.

Step 16: If desired, remove the brake backing plate. Clean the inside of the hub.

Step 17: Install the brake backing plate on the new wheel hub assembly.

Step 18: Put the assembly in place on the steering knuckle and tighten the retaining bolts.

Step 19: Fully reinsert the CV axle into the wheel hub assembly.

Step 20: Reinsert the upper control arm ball joint into the wheel knuckle and tighten the nut.

Step 21: Replace the hub nut, blocking the hub rotation with a crowbar, and tighten it.

Step 22: Put the ABS sensor cable back in place and reconnect it.

Step 23: Reinstall the brake disc and put the retainer back in place.

Step 24: Reinstall the caliper assembly and screw it back on. Tighten using a torque wrench.

Step 25: Remove the cable used to hold the caliper assembly together.

Step 26: Put the wheels back on the vehicle.

Step 27: Lower the car and properly block the wheels.

Step 28: Operation complete.
