- 12mm open ring wrench
- 13mm socket
- Fluid collector
- Wire brush
- Torque wrench
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Turn off the vehicle’s ignition, set the parking brake, and open the hood using the hood release handle.
Step 2: Open the brake fluid reservoir.
Step 3: Loosen the stud bolts on the front wheels.
Step 4: Lift the front of the vehicle. Ensure safety by referring to the video on ‘How to jack your RAM 1500 safely.’
Step 5: Place the vehicle on jack stands.
Step 6: Remove the wheels for full access, and place them under the vehicle.
Step 7: Disconnect the ABS sensor cable from the brake hose.
Step 8: Place a container under the caliper to collect brake fluid.
Step 9: Optionally, minimize fluid leakage by clamping the brake hose with a brake hose clamp.
Step 10: Unscrew the banjo screw connecting the hose to the caliper using a ratchet and a 15 mm socket.
Step 11: Use a 12 mm open ring wrench to disconnect the metal hose connector from the brake hose while it is still supported.
Step 12: Unscrew the bolt securing the brake hose clamp using a ratchet and a 13 mm socket.
Step 13: Finish unscrewing the connector between the metal hose and the brake hose.
Step 14: Remove the old brake hose.
Step 15: Take the new brake hose and screw the metal hose connector partially back on.
Step 16: Attach the brake hose mounting bracket.
Step 17: Fully tighten the metal hose connector.
Step 18: Install the brake hose clamp on the new hose to prevent fluid leakage.
Step 19: Clean the contact surface between the brake caliper and the brake hose using a wire brush and brake cleaner.
Step 20: Put new seals on the banjo screw and install the assembly on the hose.
Step 21: Screw the banjo screw back in to connect the brake hose to the caliper.
Step 22: Finish tightening the brake hose attachment with a torque wrench.
Step 23: Remove the brake hose clamp.
Step 24: Replace the ABS sensor cable in its slot.
Step 25: Clean the junction between the metal connector and the brake hose with brake cleaner.
Step 26: Bleed the brake fluid system following instructions in the video “How to bleed the brake fluid system RAM 1500.”
Step 27: After bleeding, clean the caliper-disc assembly with brake cleaner.
Step 28: Put the wheels back on the vehicle.
Step 29: Lower the car and block the wheels securely.
Step 30: Screw the brake fluid cap back on before starting the car.
Step 31: Operation complete.
