Step-by-Step Instructions

Preparation

  • Purchase an oil filter, oil can, and a drain plug.
  • Turn off the vehicle’s ignition.
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Pull the hood release handle and open the hood.

Prepare for Oil Drain

  • Open the oil filler cap to aid oil flow during draining.
  • If applicable, remove the skid plate to access the drain plug.

Drain the Oil

  • Locate and unscrew the drain plug using a ratchet and 13mm socket.
  • Be cautious during the last few turns to prevent sudden oil squirting.
  • Use an oil collector to catch the draining oil.
  • Let the oil drain for about 10 minutes.

Replace the Oil Filter

  • Access the oil filter by removing the air intake resonator.
  • Loosen the air intake duct holding clip with a flathead screwdriver and remove the duct.
  • Unscrew the air intake resonator hose clamp, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the resonator.
  • Use a ratchet, extender, and 24mm socket to release the filter cap counterclockwise.
  • Finish unscrewing it by hand and remove the oil filter.
  • Pry the filter off with a flathead screwdriver.
  • Remove the rubber O-ring under the cap.
  • Clean the filter cap with brake cleaner and replace the seal with the new one provided in the filter box.
  • Insert the new filter into the cap until it clicks.
  • Screw the filter back on by hand and tighten with a ratchet, extender, and 24mm socket.
  • Use a torque wrench for the final tightening.

Reassemble Air Intake System

  • Put the air intake resonator back in place.
  • Replace the air intake hose and screw on the hose clamp.
  • Reconnect the hose and plug in the electrical connector.
  • Screw the air intake resonator hose clamp back on.

Complete Oil Drain and Fill

  • Replace the drain plug with a new one and screw it back in.
  • Pour the recommended amount of oil into the engine, leaving a 10% margin.
  • Close the oil fill plug and start the engine, letting it run for thirty seconds.
  • Remove and wipe the oil gauge, check the level, and adjust if needed.

Final Steps

  • Put the skid plate back in place.
  • Ensure all components are securely tightened.
  • Close the hood.
