Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Turn off the vehicle’s ignition, engage the parking brake, and use the hood release handle to open the hood.
Step 2: Open the oil filler cap to aid oil flow during draining.
Step 3: Lift the front of your vehicle.
Step 4: Place the vehicle on two jack stands to access the drain plug.
Step 5: Consult our “How to jack your Ford F-150 safely” video for guidance before proceeding.
Step 6: If present, remove the skid plate to access the drain plug.
Step 7: Locate and unscrew the drain plug using a 16mm wrench. Start with the wrench, finish by hand. Be cautious as oil might squirt suddenly.
Step 8: Prepare an oil collector and allow the oil to drain for about 10 minutes.
Step 9: Replace the oil filter located beneath the serpentine belt. Use an oil collector to catch any oil that may spill when removing the filter.
Step 10: Loosen the oil filter by hand or with a filter wrench and an extender if needed. Unscrew the cap by hand and remove the oil filter.
Step 11: Coat the seal of the new oil filter with oil on the screwed side to reduce friction and improve sealing. Screw the new filter in until it makes contact, then add half a turn of tightening by hand.
Step 12: Replace the drain plug with a new one and screw it back in. Start by hand, finish with a wrench without excessive force.
Step 13: Carefully refill the engine with oil. Start by adding 90% of the suggested amount, leaving room for adjustments.
Step 14: Reattach the skid plate and lower the car to the ground. Check the oil level when the vehicle is flat.
Step 15: Add the remaining suggested oil quantity based on our tutorial’s description.
Step 16: Close the oil fill plug, start the engine, and let it run for 30 seconds to fill the oil filter.
Step 17: Remove and wipe the oil gauge, reinsert it, and check the oil level.
Step 18: Adjust the oil level to the optimal range, avoiding overfilling.
Step 19: According to the gauge reading, fine-tune the oil quantity to achieve the optimum level.
