Summary
  • The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a compact crossover sports utility vehicle (SUV) that also runs as an electric vehicle (EV).
  • The Ford Mustang Mach-E has a top speed of 114 miles per hour (mph).
  • The Mach-E can sprint from 0-60 mph in as fast as 5.1 seconds. Meanwhile, its performance edition can cover the same distance in 3.7 seconds.
  • Hitting a top speed of 168 mph, you’ll be sure to hear the Mach 1’s roaring engine as it cruises past the tracks.

Seeing the Mustang nameplate adorning a compact crossover sports utility vehicle (SUV) can seem odd. It gets even more confusing when said SUV is also an electric vehicle (EV). However, the Ford Mustang Mach-E more than lives up to the reputation of its pony car nameplate and its other namesake. Fitted with electric motors that can near-instantaneously deliver the right amount of horsepower on demand, the Mach-E can sprint like a sports car.

But how fast can the Ford Mustang Mach-E go? And how do its top speed and acceleration compare to similar vehicles?

Ford Mustang Mach-E Top Speed

To determine the top speed and acceleration of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, we’ll look at the 2021 model year. It’s a relatively new model year and comes in several variants, such as the Mustang Mach-E 4 and the Mustang Mach-E4X GT Performance Edition.

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 4 can achieve a top speed of 114 miles per hour (mph). Meanwhile, the more capable Mach-E4X GT Performance Edition can hit 120 mph. Both versions have a governor that limits their top speed.

Where the Ford Mustang Mach-E shines is acceleration. An electric drivetrain sends the Mach-E 4 from 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds.

But even that performance gets left in the dust by the Mustang Mach-E4X GT Performance Edition. The GT can accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in merely 3.7 seconds.

How Fast Is The Ford Mustang Mach-E Compared To Other Cars?

To give you a better idea of the Ford Mustang Mach-E’s speed and acceleration, let’s look at the pony car that lent its name to the SUV and a competing EV.

Ford Mustang Top Speed

The Ford Mustang is one of the most famous and popular cars in American automotive history. Let’s look at its 2021 model year to see how its performance compares to the Mustang Mach-E.

With a top speed of 163 mph, the 2021 Ford Mustang will easily outrun the Mach-E4X GT Performance Edition, which can only go 120 mph. The slower Mach-E 4 stands even less of a chance to catch up.

It’s in acceleration that the Mustang Mach-E approaches the Mustang’s performance. The 2021 Ford Mustang takes 4.4 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 mph. While the Mustang Mach-E 4 takes 0.7 more seconds to accelerate to 60 mph, that’s not too shabby for an SUV. And the Mustang Mach-E4X GT Performance Edition beats its internal combustion engine-powered namesake by 0.7 seconds to go from 0-60.

Tesla Model Y Top Speed

When you think of EVs, you probably think of Tesla. The Model Y is the California-based automaker’s crossover and counterpart to the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The Tesla Model Y Long Range has a maximum speed of 136 mph and accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. It outperforms the Ford Mustang Mach-E 4.

Meanwhile, Tesla claims that its Model Y Performance has a top speed of 150 mph and takes 3.6 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 mph. These are better stats than the Mach-E4X GT Performance Edition.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E adds a new shine to the Mustang nameplate. You can’t go wrong with this compact crossover EV.

But What About the Original Mach 1?

Combustion engines tend to produce more power than fully electric vehicles, making them a lot faster. And for a vehicle that’s associated with the speed of sound, the Ford Mustang Mach 1 is certainly a model that lives up to its reputation.

Mach 1 is the speed of sound through Earth’s atmosphere. When the speed of sound is broken, a “sonic boom” is produced,  which is a loud, cracking sound that’s associated with shock waves from an object traveling faster than sound.

A similar scenario can be observed when the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach 1 goes from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. Hitting a top speed of 168 mph, you’ll be sure to hear the Mach 1’s roaring engine as it cruises past the tracks.

Newer redesigns of the Mach 1 are also known to breach some of the model’s existing records.

The 2023 Mach 1, for example, can reach a top speed of 173 mph. This record came from a Tremec six-speed manual version of the Mach 1, which shared similar components with the classic Shelby GT350.

Aside from the Mach 1’s insane speed, many drivers will agree that there’s much to love about the famed sports car.

The 2022 Mach 1’s handling package is certainly one to admire, as it comes with a rear wing spoiler and gurney flap, as well as a front splitter and unique chassis tuning.

Features like a six-speaker sound system, Wi-Fi hotspot technology, a secondary driver system, and top-notch driver assistance tech can also be found in new Mach 1 versions.

Of course, the model comes with a sleek and luxurious interior available in a variety of colors.
