The Honda Civic lineup may be one variant less for the 2022 model year with the departure of the coupe. But it remains packed with equally great versions that are all set to join the classic sedan later on.
Honda recently unveiled what appears to be the upcoming 11th generation of the model through a prototype preview. The four-door vehicle will be the first variant to arrive at dealerships with a planned sale date in the spring of 2021.
Although only a prototype, the vehicle looks like it’s ready for production, albeit having features yet to be finalized like the aggressive-looking wheels and tires that may be more suited for the Si version.
Joining the classic sedan in the lineup is the Civic hatchback, which was most recently reintroduced to the public in 2017. Based on patent images leaked earlier this year, the hatch will get a more relaxed treatment compared to its current edition. It will, however, be built in the United States this time around. This is a welcome change for Honda‘s factory workers since the model has always been imported from the company’s U.K. assembly line.
For the performance model Si, customers can expect more power, better handling, and bolder styling this coming model year. The Type R model, on the other hand, will boast of a high horsepower level and a different chassis setup compared to the standard sedan.
Based on spy photos of the new Type R model, it will retain its hatchback build as well as its huge wing at the back. It is also expected to keep the same strong treatment on the wheels, tires, and brake hardware. Moreover, it will likely keep the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four paired to a six-speed manual transmission for 2022.
