With more and more car buyers preferring vehicles fitted with automatic transmissions, Honda is making a significant change in its lineup by removing the manual transmission option among Accord sedans.
In a document sent by Honda to online publication Roadshow, the automaker said it has stopped building Accord sedans equipped with manual transmissions since December.
Accords with a manual transmission comprise 2% of the overall sales of the model. The manual transmission was offered as standard equipment on the Accord Sport and is also available for pairing with the 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 engine and the 2.0-liter turbo I4.
Honda was the last manufacturer to discontinue offering a manual transmission on its midsize sedan in the United States. Its rivals in the segment, Mazda and Toyota, have long put a pause on the option for buyers of the Mazda6 and Camry, respectively.
Aside from the exit of the manual transmission in the Accord setup, it remains to be seen what other changes are in store for the sedan in the coming model year. But what’s sure so far is that an updated version is set to arrive later this year.
