GM Authority recently confirmed that GMC is considering the possibility of filling in the full-size crossover gap in its lineup.
With the mid-size crossover SUV covered by the 2020 Acadia and the full-size Yukon SUV, there’s a gaping hole that’s looking for a new model. According to GM Authority’s inside sources, GMC is planning to add a full-size, three-row crossover to its model range.
The last time the brand introduced a full-size crossover was when it debuted the first-generation Acadia. But when the model’s succeeding generation became smaller and dropped into the mid-size segment, the automaker was left without a full-size crossover, causing some loyal customers to turn to other brands.
In a move to gain back its lost customers and draw in a wider audience, a three-row crossover seems to be a solid solution for the brand. After all, GMC’s image revolves on creating larger premium vehicles for consumers. And not having a full-size crossover model does not make sense for its corporate branding.
GMC has neither confirmed nor denied anything about the reports. But should the company find room for a new crossover, the company would do well to launch it and ride on the high demand for crossovers in the United States.
