First, it’s the updated Ford F-150. Next, the revived Bronco and Bronco Sport. Now, Ford has also shared new details on the upcoming F-150 Raptor for the 2021 model year.
The model was notably absent when the automaker introduced the new F-150 a few months back. But now, Ford has provided everyone what they can expect on the desert-running off-roader.
Ford’s F-150 Raptor already has a lot going for itself: a powerful suspension setup, trusty tires for rough roading, and aggressive bodywork. It’s more than capable as an off-road-ready performance truck, which is why it’s not surprising these features will also make their way to the new Raptor.
This begs the question: what can buyers expect from the model’s 2021 version?
Based on images released by Ford, next year’s F-150 Raptor will showcase a unique exterior styling. This includes a front end that will likely be derived from new headlight design earlier seen in the 2021 F-150, as well as a one-of-a-kind front grille that gives the Raptor a distinct appearance.
A revised front bumper for a better approach angle, skid plates that work as underbody protection, a wider body, and larger fender flares are also in the mix of new Raptor features.
Powered by a Hellcat engine that delivers 700 horsepower, the 2021 F-150 Raptor will be going head-to-head with the Ram TRX in the off-road truck segment. That said, Ford may also equip the Raptor with an equally powerful drivetrain setup.
Nothing’s been confirmed yet, though, but an upgraded version of the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 that’s found in the current generation is on the list of possible options. Conversely, some are saying Ford may come up with a hybrid system similar to the standard 2021 F-150 or a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 like the one in the GT500.
Moreover, there are rumors claiming the automaker will offer two powertrain options that will be paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Whatever choice the Blue Oval ends up going with, it’s likely going to be as head-turning as the other releases preceding the F-150 Raptor.
More details are expected to surface in the coming months, especially since the 2021 Ford Bronco has already debuted.
