Following reports of a leaked 2021 Ford F-150 VIN decoder, it appears that America’s favorite truck could be losing its SuperCab layout.
MotorTrend recently published an article saying the configuration is not part of the list of body styles for the upcoming generation of the F-150 Raptor. Instead, there is only one option: the four-door SuperCrew.
While there are no available sales numbers exclusive for the Raptor, there is reason to believe the CrewCab is more popular than the SuperCrew. According to a cursory search by the online publication within a 200-mile radius of Detroit, Michigan, there are 295 units of the Raptor SuperCab versus only 24 units of the SuperCab model.
This provides context as to why Ford would decide to drop the SuperCab body, seeing that dealers are ordering very few units of the variant.
The automaker, however, declined to comment on the accuracy of the report.
“We don’t comment on future product speculation,” Ford spokesperson Dawn Mckenzie said.
Other than the likely removal of the SuperCab configuration, the leaked document also revealed the F-150 will get a 3.0-liter diesel engine as well as a hybrid version of the 3.5-liter V6. The output of both engines, however, are listed as “TBD.”
Another point of contention is that the VIN decoder does not list the Raptor’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Then again, Ford officials said these are all based on speculations, so there could still be some changes in the future.
