Stiffer competition in the United States’ mid-size truck segment is brewing, thanks to the recent updates on the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger.
But if it looked like there is one prominent brand missing, customers need not worry as General Motors just announced it will be updating its well-loved Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon for the 2021 model year.
On top of the refresh in line for the mid-size trucks, there is also a planned dealer-installed suspension leveling kit option as stated in the automaker’s 2021 Fleet Order Guide.
The leveling kit option (LPO Code SQS) is a perfect offer for customers who can’t get their hands on a Colorado ZR2.
And while the Fleet Order Guide does not include other details about the kit (e.g., the price), Ford’s leveling kits for the F-150 and Ranger 4×4 models provide some hints on what customers can expect.
Ford’s kit options are available through the company’s Performance Parts catalog and usually ship with specially tuned Fox dampers, vehicle-specific upper front mounts that feature NVH-isolating poly bushings, and revised front coil springs that raise the nose of the truck so it can level with the rear.
The unit typically costs $1,495 before installation and allows a 21 percent improvement in the vehicle’s approach angle and 10 percent improvement in the break-over angle.
There is a good chance Ford will follow the same approach to the new kit options for the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. However, it is expected to be more limited than the kits for the F-150 and Ranger 4×4.
According to the Fleet Order Guide, the new kits will only be compatible with the Colorado 4×4 Work Truck, 4×4 LT, 4×2 Z71, and the 4×4 Z71. For the 2021 GMC Canyon, it is expected to be compatible only with the AT4 trim.
