Electric vehicles may be gaining public attention recently, and off-roaders and SUVs continue to attract buyers across the United States, but the pickup truck segment remains a hotly contested category, especially with automakers churning out promising models one after another.

For Chevrolet fans, there is something to look forward to from the Silverado 1500 range. While the Ford F-150 maintains a tight hold on its spot as the best-selling truck in the US, Chevrolet lovers can be optimistic about the arrival of the next-generation Silverado 1500 in 2022.

The model is expected to come with a new exterior styling, a redesigned and more premium-looking interior, and added technologies. Moreover, it is also rumored to be equipped with the semi-autonomous Super Cruise system, an optional system also made available in the GMC Sierra.

But while the Silverado 1500 is still far from reach, there is another model in the Silverado range that has emerged as a star—the Silverado Trail Boss.

In a report published by GM Authority, a product communications assistance manager for the Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss confirmed that the Silverado Trail Boss accounted for 20% of the total Silverado 1500 sales in the US this past year.

Of the 310,593 Silverado units sold in 2020, around 62,119 were Trail Boss trucks.

Perhaps the reason behind its popularity lies in its right mix of features, technology, and styling. This includes the  Z71 off-road package on top of its off-road suspension, two-inch suspension lift, Hill Descent Control, skid plates, a two-speed transfer case, a trailering package, black-painted aluminum 18-inch wheels, and Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires.

Now, if these are enough for people to want a unit for themselves, a refreshed version for the 2022 model year could just be what Chevrolet needs to come close to beating the F-150 in terms of sales.
