As if the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison was not great enough, General Motors is releasing a more hardcore version of the model.

The automaker hit the jackpot when it first released the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison based on the off-road-ready Colorado ZR2. The model was designed in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) in Wixom, Michigan and was viewed as a version of the ZR2 if it was on mild steroids.

The Bison arrived with rugged front and rear steel bumpers, front winch mounting provisions, AEV-designed wheels, fender flares, as well as hot-stamped boron steel skid plates to protect the differentials, transfer case, oil pan, and fuel tank.

The original Bison option is offered at an additional $5,750 to the $42,000 retail price of the Colorado ZR2, a reasonable price for more than enough options that off-road enthusiasts will love.

But, according to an announcement from AEV, the company will be offering upgrades to factory Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bisons, although at a more substantial price.

AEV’s Colorado ZR2 Bison package will be available for $11,949 on top of the price of the ZR2 Bison. It will include a 4.10:1 differential gear upgraded for more wheel torque, AEV Crestone Onyx DualSport wheels, 35-inch BFGoodrich tires, as well as a suspension leveling kit and tie rod sleeve kit from the GM Performance part catalog.

On top of these add-ons, the Bison will also get exclusive AEV branding throughout the vehicle, an AEV instrument cluster, and AEV HighMark fender flares to keep the sheet metal safe from bumps and bruises. It will also feature an AEV build plaque, an in-house-designed low tube center section, rear differential skid plate, and a speedometer recalibration for the larger tires. Ultimately, the package will be covered by AEV’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Additional off-road gear such as an AEV intake snorkel, winch package, and transmission skid plate will also be available as options.
